About Cheryl Kinsey
Cheryl Kinsey, Interior Designer
A little about me. My love for fabrics and color goes back to when I was 10 years old. I would spend most of the summer with my Grandma who was a seamstress. One of the things she enjoyed making was all kinds of beautiful quilts. She made quilts from leftover scraps of fabric collected in a big box. I loved that box full of fabric. Every time I went to visit her I’d look through that box and put together my favorite colors and patterns often “helping” my Grandma complete the perfect quilt. I learned how something like a quilt, bursting with color, and an array of texture and pattern could bring warmth and cheer to a person’s home and heart.
In 2001 I started my boutique design business after much studying of color, texture, scale, proportion, and design for all kinds of rooms. I love a career where every day I get up I know I can make a difference in someone’s life. I have never stopped educating myself in the design trade because I love what I do and I just can’t learn enough. I still get excited every Spring and Fall when I get all the new boxes of fabric samples and catalogs of furniture, rugs, and other design items!
Who are your clients?
My clients are people struggling with decorating their home. Their home does not reflect who they really are. They don’t know where to start. In other words, they want someone to personally work with them to help determine what they need to make their ideal home a reality come true. They are people that want a “boutique” style experience working with a decorator. They want results! They are ready to invest in my services to get the look and feel of a carefully decorated space. Consequently, I tend to work with people who value my work. They are usually busy professionals, but primarily they either don’t have the time or don’t have the skills needed to pull off the look and feel they desire.
How are you different from other decorators and designers?
I have a process that we work through together, that takes into account your style, needs, desires and colors among other things. I will bring you new ideas, no matter where your starting point may be. I work to give my clients a fresh perspective on the possibilities of what their rooms can be. I make the process enjoyable and stress free for the client. I don’t overwhelm you with a ton of choices. I carefully edit choices to curate a look that is fresh and new, but yours. My extensive sewing experience means I can “read” a fabric and know how to get the most out of it. I’m not one of those designers or decorators that will come in with a design that you “must” have because that is their signature look. My web site has many styles – and each of these fit the unique needs of individual clients. In short, I provide my clients with Better Living through Refreshing Interior Design.
How do I get started?
I encourage anyone who might want to work with me to email their questions or to set up a call where we can discuss your project. Many times I will suggest we have a brief meeting to discuss more about your project and how I can best satisfy your needs, wants and desires. It’s often helpful if you’ve collected pictures of design ideas that speak to you in some way. My clients like how I can build a room design around a favorite pillow, picture, or some other article. Knowing how you want the room to feel and function are also important aspects that I will work through with you. The sooner we can have that first discussion, the sooner you can have the room that enriches your life. No matter how many times you’ve started, or how far you’ve come, together we can finish your beautiful and unique space. I’ve helped many homeowners and I can help you too. Let’s get started!
