Breakfast Room Before & After

by Our Blog No Comments

Updating this breakfast room created a more inviting space.  First with paint, it’s one of the easiest ways to update a room.  The second way to make the room feel finished is with draperies.  Having large windows in a room is great.  When they are different shapes and sizes you may wonder how to unify the room.                         Taking advantage of the different sized windows and the angled height of the room allowed us to create a unique and dramatic set of draperies that also created a warm […]

Milan Italy

by Our Blog No Comments

Our trip to Italy was a once in a lifetime, but I may have to go at least once more.  If you have the opportunity you must go!  It was beautiful! Below is the Duomo di Milano, it’s the largest church in Italy.  This Gothic masterpiece took about 600 years to complete! This is a closer picture of one of the expansive windows.  Look at that detail! The inside is gloriously massive.   My pictures really don’t do it justice.  See the statutes around the top of the columns?     Lighting in the shopping mall. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele […]

Before & After Bedroom

by Our Blog No Comments

Guest Room Make-over This guest room could use some serious pampering.  It was primarily used for storage, and them quickly cleared up to accommodate guests.  I can imagine that the guest would not feel very welcome in this room.  It’s bare and lacking warmth and color. After adding a warm paint color, custom draperies with a red banding on the leading edge, bedding, art, and some custom pillows, this room will now say welcome to any guest!

Complications of Color

by Our Blog No Comments

Color.  Everyone wants to know what color to paint their rooms.  Answering that is not as easy as just saying blue or yellow.  Trying to find “the” color is a struggle that many homeowners have.  So much so that they are frozen in indecision. When picking a color, the question to ask is “what feeling do you want the room to have?”.  Calm, peaceful, or serene are good descriptions for a bedroom.  I don’t know any adults that want to have a bedroom described as vibrant, exciting, bold. Children on the other hand love these exciting colors for their spaces.  Play […]

Kitchen Renovation – 80’s Kitchen Updated to Contemporary Dream Kitchen

by Our Blog No Comments

We completely gutted this kitchen and reinstalled the above.  The project took longer than we had planned for, but the results made it worth the wait.  I almost wish it was my kitchen.   We were able to take out the soffit and put in taller wall cabinets.  The kitchen ceiling instantly looked taller when this was done. One reason it took longer was that we had to take down the existing cabinets in order to take a look at what was in the soffit space.  Once we saw it was clear we were able to place the cabinet order. […]

Redesign Series – Post 4 – A Living Room to Live In

by Our Blog No Comments

This is the fourth and final post in a series that focuses on the transformation of a house into a home.  The homeowners can now relax on comfortable furniture in their inviting living room. When entertaining the living room is usually where people end up for conversation after dinner.  Knowing that each seating option is comfortable can be a big relief for homeowners. Before, the sofa faced the window wall.  This created a two problems.  First, the sofa “blocked” entry into the room, and second, it faced the windows where anyone sitting on the sofa would be staring into […]

Redesign Series – Post 3 – Update to Reflect a Contemporary Style

by Our Blog No Comments

This is the third post in a series of four.  In keeping with the contemporary theme and adding some color we went with a beautiful faux finish in the powder room.  Have you ever been to someone’s beautiful home and gone into the powder room to wonder what happened?   Decorating this room is just as important as the others and needs attention.  (sorry about the missing light bulb) This client had painted and hung art, but why not make the room itself a piece of art.  I had my wonderful faux painter come in and work her magic. […]

Redesign Series – Post 2 – The Foyer

by Our Blog No Comments

This is the second post in a series of four posts showing the transformation of a house that wasn’t working, on several levels, into a beautiful home that became more comfortable and inviting, as well as a reflection of the homeowner’s style. The foyer is the first point in the home where you both welcome people and give them a taste of your home’s style.  It’s the room where you have the opportunity to ‘enter into’ the feeling you want to experience in your home.  Too many people use it as the space to simply get to the […]

Redesign Series – Post 1 – The Dining Room

by Our Blog No Comments

This will be the first post in a series of four posts showing the transformation of a house that wasn’t working, on several levels, into a beautiful home that became more comfortable and a reflection of the homeowner’s style. When my client contacted me it was in hopes of changing her home to something that didn’t look like it was the combination of furnishings from two different households.  That’s what it was.  When couples marry, they bring items from both his and her former homes and hope to make it work together.  But it doesn’t.  They can’t figure out […]

2015 Color of the Year – Everyone Has One

by Our Blog No Comments

Every year there’s a color of the year.  This year’s color of the year is Marsala.  It’s a warm, rich red.  But here’s the thing, every paint manufacturer has a color of the year.  This one is Pantone’s color of the year.  Pantone is a forecaster that sets the tone for color tends. Pantone also has a color pallete for 2015.  You will probably start seeing these everywhere.  Not just for painting walls, but for clothing, accessories, home products….the list goes on.   The wording here is a little fuzzy, but you get the idea of the Pantone color […]

House Tour in Palo Alto

by Our Blog No Comments

I love the fresh open design of this beautiful home in Palo Alto.  The corner plant in this bright airy space somehow adds life to the serene colors of the living room. Stairs are painted gray…. a step away from traditional.   The family room is open yet inviting.  The glass wall opens to the outdoors allowing great opportunities for entertaining.     The master bedroom is cool, calm and inviting.  The faux fur pillow and the textured bedding adds depth to the space. The guest room is inviting with a window seat for reading or an impromptu conversation. […]

I Love Armoires

by Our Blog No Comments

I love Armoires!  They are beautiful pieces to store your stuff in.  They give your room added character.  The full mirror on the front of this armoire is really different.  Love the carvings on the top and legs too.   Isn’t this a great kitchen?  I love the colors.  I really love the two armoires used for storing all your beautiful dishes and serving pieces.  The tall glass doors are perfect for the height of the space.   I like the size of this armoire.  You could store alot in there.  I love the details, the carvings and the […]

Under Stair Storage Ideas

by Our Blog No Comments

Understair storage.  Yes, we all store things under there.  But does it look great?  Is it efficient?  Well, I’ve got a few ideas for you to get started on organizing that little and under used space in your home.  I love this idea.  (freshome)  Picture on left shows drawers closed.  It looks like a great paneled wall.  But when its open, look at all the storage!   I love this clever little area for coats, umbrellas, bookbags and all those things you need when heading out the door.  Notice how all the knobs are different?  Love that idea!  Also, […]

Pantone Color for 2014

by Our Blog No Comments

Radiant Orchid is the 2014 color of the year!  It’s beautiful, it’s happy, it’s bright, and it’s very feminine.  I think this color could work for a few different kinds of decorating projects, like a girl’s room, accessories or accent pieces in a room (probably something more contemporay), but it’s most likely more suitable for clothing.  Don’t get me wrong.  Ever since they announced it I’ve seen lots of home decor fabrics you can use.     I even used a color kinda close to this one earlier this year and it looks fabulous in the space.  See, it […]
